Job Summary
This position supports the finishing and shipping process by handling, painting, tagging, stacking, and staging fabricated metal products. The Shop Painter Laborer is responsible for maintaining quality paint finishes, following safety procedures, and working efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment. This role requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently throughout the workday.
Essential Job Duties
The essential job duties include, but are not limited to:
Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where metal materials are fabricated, painted, moved, and staged. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The environment includes exposure to paint fumes, noise, and moving equipment, with the required use of PPE.
Additional Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
The essential job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Handle and identify finished materials for painting and shipment.
- Apply paint to finished products in accordance with quality and production standards.
- Tag, stack, sort, and stage painted products for shipping or further processing.
- Inspect finished work for coverage, defects, and overall quality; report issues to supervision.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper housekeeping of paint and work zones.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE, respirator use, and material handling guidelines.
- Work productively and independently to meet daily production expectations.
- Perform other shop-related tasks as assigned by supervision.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or shop environment required.
- Prior experience with industrial or spray painting is preferred but not required.
- Forklift experience is preferred but not required; willingness to become certified if needed.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety practices in a shop or industrial setting.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Attention to detail to ensure consistent, high-quality paint finishes.
- Ability to recognize defects or quality issues and communicate them appropriately.
- Dependability, initiative, and the ability to stay on task without constant supervision.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a production team.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive motions throughout an entire shift.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding shop environment with paint application equipment.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test and medical qualification as required.
- Paint application tools and related shop equipment.
- Material handling tools (e.g., carts, racks, forklifts if certified).
